ZAI in the Community

Friday, December 21, 2018

As in the past several years, attendees to ZAI’s Annual Holiday Party were asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the party for Marine Toys for Tots, a program whose basic mission is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute them to less fortunate children during the holiday season. In addition, raffle tickets were available for purchase for one lucky winner to take home a 55” TV and XBOX bundle. Party attendees, which included ZAI and BarnAllen employees and their guests, came through in a big way, donating nine large boxes of toys and an additional $2300 in donations via the raffle and cash donations! A big thank you to the local Marine representatives and Prince George's County Police Department for attending they party and helping us remain involved in this annual event.

ZAI also donated 100 wreaths to Wreaths Across America, which was matched by KBS, the company that manages our corporate headquarters building. The wreaths were part of the 250,000+ wreaths there were laid on headstones at Arlington National Cemetery on December 15. Several ZAI employees were honored to be involved with the wreath laying, despite the wet weather!

Wreaths Across America has a mission—Remember, Honor, Teach—which is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies on a specified Saturday in December at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as veterans cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond. The wreaths laid in Arlington are made in Maine and trucked down to Virginia, where tens of thousands of volunteers lay them on grave sites throughout the cemetery. There is no government funding for this event. The costs are paid by individual wreaths sponsors, corporate donors, and volunteer truckers. We are honored to have been a small part of ensuring every grave was adorned with a wreath again this year

Also, as we have in the past several years, ZAI donated 100 wreaths to Wreaths Across America. This year, because we made our donation via our property management company’s drive, our donation was matched by Transwestern. These 200 wreaths were among the more than 250,000+ wreaths laid at Arlington National Cemetery on 12/15/18.
